No that guy is not Junior Samples, its me. I really need to do something about that weight, but I am corn-fed 😮 I am standing in the corn field just where the July 4th picture was taken. What a difference a month makes!
The corn has taken off with the warm soil, hot weather and now the timely rains. I believe that we may just get a crop yet. Our sweet corn in the garden is over my head, tassled and making ears. This corn will get growing now too. I am not worried.
The weather has been pretty nice for the dog days. The rain brought some relief from the humidity. The evenings are cool in the 70’s and very pleasant. In the morning when I am spreading manure, it’s also cooler, much to the delight of the draft horses.
I cleaned up a few corners of the farm and got a load of scrap metal. That was part of yesterdays work. It sold it for $200 dollars. It was like found money, but no problem finding a place to spend it. It has got me thinking about doing a bit more clean up, I can tell you that.
Summer is fading fast. Even though sweat drips off my brow, I know that cooler weather will soon be upon us. I see the early trees leaves starting to turn color. The Ashtabula County fair starts next week and school shopping is in full swing around here.
Our garden will soon be in high gear and the harvest season will be upon us. Animals will soon make their preparations for winter. My sister moved to Florida because of the squirrels gathering nuts. She kept having to climb down out of the trees. She calls herself a mis-placed Buckeye … whatever she is still a nut 😮
There are plenty of farm jobs to complete in August. I will continue to work from my never-ending list, thankful to be able to do so. The summer is fading but there are still lots of fun things to do. The ponds are warm for swimming. The grass doesn’t need mowed quite so often. The animals are still outside depositing most of their own manure and the evening breeze blows cool and sweet on the front porch.
