Waiting on Moisture

Sam and I are waiting for the horses to come in for breakfast. He waits patiently at my feet, paws crossed and relaxed. We are also waiting on some needed rain. In the meantime, we are mowing pasture and other jobs, so as to make the best use of whatever rain we get. Farming is all about the weather. You’re either asking for it, praying over it, discussing it or complaining about it. I think the best policy is to just be patient and wait. Just roll with the punches. It is much less worrisome that way.

Abby and her filly foal Joy, come through the gate on the way to breakfast and the cool barn. The filly is growing very fast. She is a sweetheart. She has a lot of personality, is very tame and a “Joy” to be around!

So far, our pastures are holding up well. I have to keep reminding myself that it is only early June. The season seems much farther along. The barn is half full of hay. The ground is as hard as concrete and the biting flies of summer are here.

The rain will come. Things will be okay, it’s just the wait that is the hard part. I need to find more projects for myself to make the waiting easier. Lord knows, that there is plenty to do. I’m pretty sure that I can find a few things :o)
