We got the opportunity to pay it forward. Our Suffolks gave wagon rides at the local “Relay for Life” in the center of town over the weekend. Our non-profit, Saving Suffolks, partnered with the American Cancer Society, to raise monies. Our non-profit split our proceeds 50-50 with them. It was a fun day, emotional at times, but a fun day!

We took our older mares Abby and Amee. Abby’s filly foal Joy went along too. Joy learned much that day. There were lots of strange noises, fluttering flags and signs, even a big scary purple floaty guy that bent twisted and waved as we went by. The traffic passed us within feet of her and she made no fearful moves. Her mom was fine with all the scary stuff, so she was fine too.

We made several trips around the block. Joy took it all in stride. She learned quickly to just walk patiently beside mom. The crowd loved her. She made friends with people young and old. We were in our element, presenting these amazing rare breed horses to the public. We also made friends that were cancer survivors and their families. Hopefully the continued efforts of folks like Carol and Rick Ward will raise awareness and provide the funds to “Kick Cancer’s Butt”.
Maybe next year you will join us and support two worthy causes? We at Saving Suffolks and the American Cancer Society say thank you very much!
