Last evening, I helped our son Josh hill his potatoes in his garden. It was the first time my Amee horse had been in the hilling plow. It was also Josh’s first time on the plow handles. We got off to a wiggly start, but soon sorted it out and completed the job.
It is a family affair, the gardening and homesteading jobs at Josh’s. His wife and 4 children all pitch in and get it done. They had started hilling with garden hoes, but the hot weather and big job made the going slow. I told him I would bring the horse and see if we could help. It sure did help. They ahd a little to do by hand, but for the most part, things went very well.

We did eight or nine rows last night. The family had done three or four rows the day before. It was nice to have this job done. They maintain and grow 3 other gardens too…this is just the potato crop!
In another first, my granddaughter showed me a milkweed flower blossom. It was the first time for me to actually look at one. It was also my first time smelling one. They are beautiful and smell almost like a lilac. I was amazed.

I think they are beautiful! In fact the whole experience was beautiful and this just topped it off!
