Laboring on Labor Day

Our recently damaged hoop building is getting a makeover. We decided to go with a more traditional structure for a replacement. It all started when I found these trusses for sale on the internet. They are wider than I need, but the price was right. No worries, i just added a “porch” to the building.

The 6-7 foot overhang will provide protection for animals, a place for storage or home for the manure spreader. I am not sure how this space will be utilized, but I think it will work out very well.

We set the trusses yesterday morning. The holiday of Labor Day, made help available. The trusses weren’t the only job, completed yesterday either. The hay man brought the last of our hay needed to fill the barn. He too was blessed with the nice weather and a few extra hands to get the job done!

This project, we hope to complete in the coming few days. The steel roof and sides will go on soon. I believe that the space will be completed before the sawdust man shows up. I want to get the sawdust pile replenished before mud season and the snow flies.

September rolled in here like a steam roller. It seems that August flew by and the autumn is banging on the door! Every year it seems to come faster, but this year after a very rainy summer, it is hard to believe that it is almost over. I guess the best thing to do is stay focused, push hard and keep on laboring…even on Labor Day!
