Empty to Filling

We have been blessed with some outstanding autumn weather. We are working steadily on getting the woodshed full. I hope to finish that job early next week.

The horses standing quiet while we load and unload allows for steady work. They are almost on auto-pilot. I think they just go where I tell them so as not to ruin my male ego. In other words, like my wife, they let me think that I am in charge.

What a difference a few days make, when everyone works steady. This woodshed measures 16 feet by 24 feet. The rafters are about 7’6″ high. We are just over halfway to filling it up. It does take awhile, but what a great feeling when the last piece goes in.

When we start boiling the sap, we use a wheelbarrow full every 15 minutes at least. We usually boil 8 to 10 hours each time the sap runs. So, you see it takes a lot of wood, but the sweet reward makes it all worth it!

Abby and Amee stand waiting on me ready to head out of the barn. These gals are the best! Suffolk draft horse doing what they do best…work!

The firewood has been a priority job, so not much else gets done except chores. I let my “little girls” out for a drink and their turnout time in the pasture. I had to take the photo below, because I was taken aback at how fast they are growing.

Maggee on the left, Joy in the middle and Grace on the right. All three were born here and will soon be part of our working herd. Grace’s training has begun. Maggee’s will start as soon as the woodshed is full. Grace is 2, Maggee 1 and Joy is 6 months. It is so fun to watch them grow

I guess its sort of like the woodshed, they empty the mangers and fill up their bodies. So empty to full can be seen here too.
