We finished! Yes, I can still stuff a little more in there, but the 2024 maple sap firewood is done. Making sugarwood is a big job, but the feeling when it has been completed is wonderful!
Many thanks to my grandchildren and their friends for the help. I will keep this work going all winter for 2025 and get ahead of the game. I hate being under pressure. Cutting, splitting and stacking wood is a rewarding job, but being behind takes the joy out of it.
Well seasoned, dry, cured wood makes a hot fire. A hot fire makes a great “boil” , just what is needed to make maple syrup. I like to have the woodshed full before the hot days of summer and haying are upon us. The last few years, I have been pushed into late fall completing this job. I vow to do better from now on.

The brush, bark and chips have been cleaned up too. I like the neat appearance along with the knowledge of knowing that we are done…for awhile at least.
I can now focus on finishing a few other farm projects that are nearing completion. The feedlot cement at the new sawdust storage building is done, just the fence reinstall needs completed. The renovation of our old corn crib area and the repurposing of our shop too, is almost complete. We started moving wagons and buggies into it yesterday.
Lastly, the renovation of the old butcher shop, turning it into a new blacksmithing shop, is very well started. Change is constant but necessary , I guess?
The job of training young horses is ongoing. There will be much more information and communication on this topic coming very soon! Be assured that I am looking for the … Next Job!
