Yesterday, marked the end to finally completing my summer projects. We installed the tie rail for the horse wash area.
The rail was welded from old pipe that we had laying around. My buddy Ron, did most of the welding. The uprights are in the ground 3 feet and set in concrete.
The horizontal part is in line with the fence and building, but there is enough space for a human to walk between the rail and the fence post. We didn’t want to shut off people traffic, but we don’t want horses or cows roaming the yard when we use the drive as an animal lane.
We welded loops under the horizontal bar to keep the horses tie rope in place. Without the half rings, the ropes could side from one end to the other giving the tied animal too much leeway.
The ground at the wash rack is an old cement slab, cut from our old patio. New gravel keeps the slab in place and allows for additional drainage around the area. This will make a great place to wash horses before parades and stuff, but better still to wash muddy feet and legs after logging or maple sap gathering.
We have both hot and cold running water nearby. This has been a goal for a long time. It wasn’t expensive to do, making me wonder why it took me so long?!
The project cost 64 dollars and time. It should last my lifetime so I say it is money well spent!
