It has been a roller coaster spring here in Northeast Ohio. We finally tapped our maple trees and maple syrup season is in full swing. This has been a busy week. Last week however, I was chomping at the bit to get going. I needed to just wait and be patient.
A young wife of our former farmhand, gave me some sourdough starter. Let me tell you, sourdough will teach you patience! You have to feed it, measure it, and wait on it. I fretted way too much over that first loaf. I made some mistakes and I learned a lot. I am hooked. It will become a very fun healthy hobby.
My wife told me before I even started, “this is your baby”. So, she helps with where we keep things and is very supportive, but she is hands off. I had a ball making it and look forward to pancakes, noodles and crackers, yet to come.

It turned out a little dense, I think be cause I overworked the dough. It sure was tasty! I am going to bake more this weekend in between sap runs.
We also had an old draft horse cart we bought painted. The cart will be used in parades and at the county fair. We think it turned out nice. We are glad that the young craftsman could work us in to his busy schedule.

These projects kept me from going bonkers waiting on the sap to run. Both projects were fun to have under my belt. The cart is a rear entry design for old men with bad knees and big belly…but it can’t be from the sourdough!
