Well, maple season 2024 is finally here for us. The sap ran very good for our “first run”. The first boil is a different process as we wait for the maple sap to reduce and the sugar content to rise as it “sweetens” the pan.

The steam rises the same. The outside cold weather intensifies the steam but it allows for the sipping of coffee while I reflect upon seasons past, including the memories made in my grandpa’s sugarhouse when I was a boy. These are among my sweetest memories …pun intended.

Towards the end of the boil, after the pans got sweet, we eventually made some syrup. The next runs are coming this week. The weather is whacky. We don’t know how long the season will last for us, but we will take whatever nature provides. We will count our blessings and hopefully make a few memories for next year’s reflections.
