Our herd stallion Hank, surveying the pastures and his “gals” too. Hank has 2 new baby girls here on the farm. He likes to let everyone know that he is large and in charge…right up until one of the mares puts him in his place. Like all of us guys, he quiets down and sulks off…until next time.

In the far pasture, Hank and Abby graze as I turn the moms and babies out into an adjacent paddock. It is better this way for now, once the brood mares are bred back, they can all be together again. This separation keeps the daily drama at a manageable level for now.

The babies are about 2 weeks apart in age. They and their moms are doing well on the fresh green grass. We bring them in daily for feeding and to keep our hands on the babies. I introduce them to a halter and lead rope, grooming and other “new” things. They are doing well and growing fast.

Sunshine, plenty of lush grass and all the fresh water they want, makes for a good recipe for growth. It also gets mom back in condition and keeps everyone satisfied.
We have another baby to come this year. Abby is due in late June. She is keeping hank company for now as she waits for her due date. The younger fillies are in a different pasture. They too are growing and being trained for draft horse jobs. Things are busy here, but I take time out to just watch and love on these little ones!
The babies names are Rubee and Blossom, both girls and both sweethearts!
