Finally we have some time to rest, reset and reflect. The hay is all in for the most part. We may cut a couple places for some second cutting, but things are getting dry. If the pastures get short, I will let the horses harvest the second cutting with their mouths. It saves fuel and time.
The babies are all doing very well. The mommas are bred back for next year and things are slowing down. We have been on a very fast track for over a month. Along with the farm work, haying and such, we hosted the Suffolk Gathering, birthed the last 2 foals, bred a few mares and attended Horse Progress Days in Lancaster county Pennsylvania. It has been plenty hot to boot!

Since the bulk of the hay has been harvested, we will switch gears and get our firewood for the sugarhouse all in. The woods work is nice on a hot day as we work in the shade. It also gives me a chance to work young horses in training.
Summer is almost half over. As I survey the work I have left, I am mostly pleased. There is always plenty to do, but being caught up is a beautiful thing. Keep your nose to the grindstone, but take some time out for family and fun!
