Making Ready

We are working and making ready for many things. The most important thing going on right now, is training our young horses. In the photo above, Maggee is getting used to the shaves on the cart. I also sit on the seat, get on and off the cart and rock it in an exaggerated motion. She took it all in stride and will be pulling this cart very soon. She just turned 2 years old in April.

Joy, our yearling is learning new stuff too. She is learning about harness, patience, turning, standing and trusting me.

What a difference a year makes. Joy is the baby enjoying a good scratch and now learning to be a big girl in harness. Her training, at this point, is slow going. I give plenty of time to process each lesson. We end on a good note each time. She is doing outstanding for her age and the amount of time invested so far.

I have also been working in the woods to make ready to get our sugarwood logs for firewood out to be split and stacked. We are about half done, but this bunch of logs were in a brushy briar patch that was almost impossible to get through. It will be much easier now.

My buddy and inspector Sam approves of the work.

We also put a culvert in an intermittent stream bed that we have crossed for 30 years. It didn’t ever get muddy, but it sure was a nuisance to cross. It was dry enough to even haul a little stone in to make it a permanent crossing. The pipe may never even drain water, but when it needs to , it can and I won’t be stirring up mud. It is just part of being a good environmental steward in my opinion.

Once again, this job inspected and passed by inspector Sam.

September is flying by as time does. We are doing our best making ready for fall and the jobs that come with it.
