October Ramblings

First and foremost, we want to send our warmest thoughts, deepest condolences and daily prayers, to the people suffering from the latest two hurricanes. The devastation is hard to take in. The outpouring of neighborly support is amazing. Thank you to anyone who has helped or donated to these overwhelming incidents.

The work to fill the woodshed before the weather turns foul is in full swing. You can see we have some inside the shed and this pile waiting to be cut and split. All of the wood, almost 12 cords, will be used to boil maple sap to make maple syrup. A sweet treat given from the woods to anyone who wants a little spring time work … alright a lot of spring time work, not to mention the work that comes the rest of the year like firewood or cleaning.

Our grandson and his buddy helped me to make that pile of logs disappear. We need about a cord and a half and the shed will be full. We clean up the dead and down trees from our woodlot to make this firewood. We even managed to salvage a dozen saw logs to be made into lumber for other projects.

It is mid-October and the days will shorten soon. This job will soon be complete. The horses are doing well and help us in the woods. The young horses in training will help in this effort very soon too. All in good time. It takes a steady , well broke horse to walk in the trees and brush to extract logs with the precision needed to do no damage to surrounding trees or the horses themselves.

No worries though, we have plenty of jobs for the trainees to do. Thanks for reading and coming along with us. I hope you will continue to watch the youngsters progress as well as the happenings around the farm.
