As we head into winter, I had a chance to reflect on the growth we have seen so far this year. In the photo above, I am speaking to a group of homeschoolers. Some of these children are quite young, so I tried to talk at their level. In just a few sentences, it was made abundantly clear, that though young in years they were wise in their thinking. We had a great day learning about animal power, regenerative agriculture, woodland stewardship and my beloved Suffolk Punch draft horse. It was a good day for us all.

I snapped this picture on October 31. These are three of Hank’s baby girls. The middle on is Rubee. Blossom is on the left and Gabrielle, “Gabby” on the right. These three little ladies are very pleasing to me. They too are young, but have learned many things already. They halter, tie and lead very well. They come when called and are fun to be around. More of the growth around the farm can be seen here.
Speaking of growth! Hank is maturing very well. He is like a youngster who had a growth spurt and now his clothes don’t fit!

This is Hank’s new collar. I don’t think he will be in it very long either. He was wearing a 25″ with a pad. This collar is a 27″ and as you can see, there is no room for a pad underneath. He jumped two sizes. This collar is back on his shoulders. There is just enough room for the flat of my hand to fit on the sides, with about three inches open on the bottom.

This is a good fit. No rocking or choking. We will continue on with Hank’s training and I expect him to grow even more with muscle mass and maturity. He is a good boy who stays in the collar and gives me his all. His gentleness and confidence are his best assets. I can say that he passes these traits on to his babies too. Growth is not a bad thing when it is channeled, developed and guided. It is in our best interest to be involved in every step of the way no matter if it is regarding children, animals or even government.
My stallion is made better by my interaction with him. Children learn at different rates, being involved and engaged is absolutely necessary. All of us are made better by growth even if we resist a bit. My hat is off to all the homeschool moms and dads, teachers and parents who help shape young minds.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” Proverbs 27:17
Don’t be afraid to give council or receive criticism it makes us all better. When someone tells you to not forget the garden hose before it freezes onto the spigot, you should listen! It’s that time of year.
