Whew What a Week

What a big snow event we just had! The snow started on the day after Thanksgiving. We got over ten inches, but our ground is warm so it was a light snow that turned slushy quickly. I plowed us out as the snow continued to fall. It fell in plowable amounts every day for 8 days but one!

We got between 30 and 40 inches of snow over that time. We were much more fortunate than some around the county. I even took two days off between chores and plowing to read a book. Walking in the deep snow with the mud underneath is a slow go…reading was a much better option!

We also got our tree and a few Christmas decorations put up. It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! The snow is beautiful with everything covered in white.

A warm up is coming for next week. The forecast shows a couple days of rain to boot. It may make for even more interesting walking. I fear for the heaviest hit areas as the rooves will be tested and a few may fail from the wet heavy snow. One thing for sure it going to be a mess for most of us. I figure I will have to plow slush a few times to be ready when it all changes back to snow.

All that snow may be my fault? I traded for this old “Pony Grader” . It shows the signs of much wear from building and maintaining roads in years past. I think it will be a fun project. My dear wife just shakes her head. The good thing is that we both giggle about my weird ways to have fun!

This thing is quite old but mostly freed up. Everything moves and the few parts that don’t are getting a shot of penetrating oil each time I walk by. It is a perfect size to use with two or three horses for plowing our long drive. To plow snow I can set it up and just pull it. There will be no need for another guy to adjust height and angle just to move snow. Stay tuned as I bring this old forgotten piece of Americana back to life.

By the way, the numbers in the first photo we in the midst of the storm. Several of the places listed wound up with over 4 and 5 feet of the beautiful white stuff! Whew what a week!!!
