The Days Get Longer

Winter is here, but now the days start getting longer. The sun will stay present just a bit more each day. I pray that I make the best use of each one.

I caught this sunset a couple of weeks ago. The snow in the picture is gone, but a new dusting has taken its place. The farm, fields and woods rest, waiting for spring. I am embracing the freeze up. I am hoping that a few “bugs” die. I also hope to complete a few projects. I also will plan for a few new ones when the weather and cold drive me inside.

Training of young horses continues. This girl is here for a few lessons. She is doing very well and is now an old hand at cart driving. She is a level headed gal, who wants to please. I am happy with her progress so far.

After her training session, she waits patiently resting on three legs as I put the cart away. She knows the harness comes off next. She fell into the routine on her third or fourth lesson. Horses, like some people, enjoy a regimented routine. I do keep some things the same, but mix enough other stuff in to keep it interesting. I want her to wait for me to tell her when we are done, not her telling me. Its all part of the training process.

In a few days we will celebrate Christmas. Things are beginning to look a lot like it too. The tree is all decorated. Wreaths, ribbons and bows adorn the house and doors. Cookies and sweet treats can be found all over the house. The children are becoming restless now that school is out for the Holiday break. Maybe it’s because the days are getting longer?

I will enjoy this time. I will take in all the sights and sounds of the season. I will remain thankful for the gifts we have received and those to come. I will wait patiently for spring. It will come. Soon, we will be boiling maple sap and enjoying that sweet reward, but for now we will rest and wait for the longer days.
