As we transition our farm from more traditional spring rituals like plowing and seeding, breeding and foaling is now our focus. Our stallion Hank is becoming a popular guy. Not only do our ladies love him, so do a few from other farms.
Having visitors means we need a few more beds or in this case stalls. I was able to secure these portable box stalls by being in the right place at the right time. They will function for us this year as they are. After breeding season, I will give them a makeover.
We are watching two of our mares closely. Their foaling time is soon. It is a scary but exciting time. Along with watching for babies and caring for them when they get here, its breeding time. So far, Hank has had two visitors for him to help make 2026 babies.

One momma ultra-sounded in foal this morning. What a blessing for all involved. She will go home to her home farm in the next day or two. This is a busy time, just as the traditional spring farming days are. The work has just shifted a bit.
We will still plow and plant this spring but right now its a little too wet to work the fields. Just like every year, we wait, wait then go full speed until it rains again. Our foaling and breeding are not interrupted by the weather, but any mom can tell you the weather and the moon can make a difference!
I will continue to work towards spring enjoying the warm days and watching the grass green up. Soon, Suffolk foals will decorate our pastures and I can barely wait! The season begins!
