Her Name is Scarlett Rose

Just after midnight on May 16, we welcomed our second foal of 2025. A little filly. Our granddaughter Izzie, helped pick out her name. We call her Scarlett Rose.

She is a strong one. She was up and nursing 40 minutes after being born. We imprinted her. I think she actually enjoyed being touched in all her ticklish spots. She responded to our voices and has no fear of us.

Mom, Rose, was very attentive too. She is a good momma. Scarlett is her second baby. Rosie’s filly from last year is named Blossom and she lives here on the farm with us.

Our Border Collie Sam, introduced himself too. They kissed and licked through the screen. Sam will watch over and protect her, but he also keeps order around here. He will help me load or lead a horse when asked. He will also keep them all from pawing at our gates. He is a gentle spirit and my best farm friend. He even gets a bit jealous when I spend time with our stallion Hank, but he knows we are best buds.

Eight hours after bonding with mom, Scarlett and Rosie get to spend the day outside in the growing, green, lush pastures. She loved the warm sunshine on her coat and the feel of the Earth on her feet. Sam trails along to the gate.

We are thankful for baby number 2 and are very pleased with her. Four more Suffolk mothers await their due dates over the next few weeks. We, with God’s help, are helping this rare breed increase its numbers. It is an exciting time of year for sure!
