The school children are back to school, pastures are getting short, leaves are starting to turn and Sam enjoys a cool break in the shade. These are the dog days of summer, marked by some of the last hot days of August. I guess I am ready for the seasons to change again. I am sure ready for the cool days of autumn.

Our gardens too are winding down. The last big job will be the tomato harvest. The corn is almost done, potatoes are ready to dig and the green beans are done. The harvest has been good in spite of our wacky weather summer of wet, then bone dry days.

A quick picture of most of our horse herd. The babies are growing fast. We have begun halter training all of them. It’s going well. We will introduce many more things as soon as a few projects wrap up. The barn renovation is nearing completion. The concrete job got pushed off until next week do to a contractor’s busy schedule. I am ready, so it will happen soon.

This is Jaimee. He will hopefully become a rising star of the farm. I want a team of geldings one day to do farm work, parades, plowing matches and other things. I am hoping he will fit the bill as one of a team. Time will tell, but I sure like him so far.
We hope all of our readers are fairing well this summer and are almost ready for whatever fall brings. Ready or not, it’s coming!
