The last week of the year is going to be a real roller coaster. Yesterday morning we were covered in a thin coating of ice and snow. There was no breeze, just a peaceful morning.

I was a very pretty landscape. The light coating of ice and snow, hid all the mud, yet still let a hint of green show through. I stood in awe and just tried to soak in the view.
Today our high temperature was 56F. Gone is the snow. More rain made the mud show through again, but at least there was some green to improve the damp scenic view. The weatherman says the temperature will drop into the 20’s by morning. This is hard on man and beast!
The weather this coming week is going to be cold. Only one day in the next ten will we be above freezing. The nighttime temperatures will be in the low teens. Some lake effect snow is coming too. It is my hope that the ground will freeze a bit before the insulating snow protects the gooey mud.

The sugarhouse waits in the distance. The up and down days of February and March will be here soon enough. There is plenty to do while we wait. This current wet, warm, muddy pattern makes it hard to do much, but soon we will be in the deep freeze again.
Life on a northeast Ohio farm is full of adventure, fun and fussing…mostly about the weather. The horses are gearing up for work to start getting them fit for the upcoming maple syrup season followed by spring planting and field work. We will continue to train the younger horses and complain a bit about the weather…after all that’s what farmers do :o)
