Our maple syrup season is in full swing. The weather continues to be a bit unseasonable. In the coming week, we will be missing below freezing nights. This is not good for maple sap flow. The temperatures need to go up and down. That keeps the sap flowing and the buds from opening. Once the buds open, our season is done. Our fingers are crossed for the next few days.

When the sap isn’t running and the rain is pouring down outside, the training of our young Suffolk horses continues. Murtagh, our coming 2-year old gelding, learned to put a collar over his head. I use a big one to make sure that it goes on and off easily. He will get a real one very soon. He took it all in stride, as if he had worn one for years.

Murtagh’s younger brother Jaimee, also got to act like a big shot. First he wore a set of noisy sleighbells. He didn’t care one bit.

He also wore the big collar that his brother had worn. It is quite a big bigger on him, but the idea is the same. He didn’t mind the collar either. In fact, I think he thought I was silly wondering if , “This all you got?!”
So, we are headed towards spring in a big way. There is plenty to do with some exciting times ahead. Stay tuned.
