Every spring the lambs come no matter the weather. This year so far some were born in a pouring down rain with the temperature at 40 degrees F. My little mommas stood over their sleeping babies, sheltering them from the cold rain. I am amazed by how Mother Nature takes care of her charges. I try to follow her example and care for my animals as if they are my children.
In this photo, taken a couple summers ago, you can see how much my sheep like me. They will follow me everywhere on our farm. They know that following me means a new fresh paddock or the tasty contents of my white five gallon bucket. Having animals come when you call them is a wonderful thing. Much nicer to see them running at you instead of away from you.
Tomorrow I will upload photos from this year’s lamb crop. (I need a little computer help from my son :o) ) The lambs are coming pretty steady now. We breed for spring babies to come when the pasture grasses are in high gear, suppling succluent feed for mom and babes. The rich milk grows lambs very quickly.
Sheep are pleasing to me. They depend upon me, look for me and give me peace. The lambs make being a sheep farmer worth it. The little creatures grow so quickly you wonder how you missed them grow up … just like our children.
