The new pullets have arrived. We have a mixed flock of 20 ladies who will start laying in just a few days. I am so very glad, we had to buy store-bought eggs for the first time in years… I don’t know how people eat them!
Our new flock is learning where the hen-house is, where the feed and water is and where to go to be safe at night. They will soon be free ranging around the barnyard and close pastures. I will see a big change in the feed consumed when they are able to go scratch and eat what they want. The feed I put out will only supplement them then, but for now it is their whole meal when ever they want it.
Today my oldest son will come to work on winter firewood. I am sure he will eat lunch with us. It will just be a supplement as he will go home to eat too. I guess my boys graze just like our animal charges 😮
Tonight we will rehearse for our youngest son’s wedding. It is hard to believe that very soon my baby will be a married man. Seems like only yesterday when I got married…. twice! I guess the years have flown by while I was busy living.
We will feed another hungry brood this evening. I guess my poor wife’s life revolves around food, but then again she feeds us. We find love in her cooking, peace in her kitchen and comfort wherever she is. I am so glad to have followed her home 😮 …and even gladder that she let me stay!
It’s funny to me that they call the feed tonight a rehearsal dinner. Heck, I know I will like the food. What’s to rehearse? We will all learn where to sit, how to stand, what to say. I may even be housebroken by the time we are done. One thing for sure we will laugh, live and love … That is what it is all about!
I hope our children have learned from us that marriage is a wonderful thing. It is something that you have to work on with compromise and forgiveness. I am very far from perfect, but she loves me anyway. We have found what works for us. My life is wonderful with her in it… and I will love her always.
