Homemade Pepperoni

December 7, 2011

Here is a tub of homemade pepperoni. I made it here in our little smokehouse. The meat cutting took place in the garage. The little smokehouse does a pretty good job. It’s only limitation is it’s size.
The treat is fully cooked and ready to eat. It is the time of year for homemade treats of many kinds. Candies, cakes and cookies made with love will soon fill many houses. Moms everywhere will shower their families with love in the form of baked goods.
I am reminded that today is Pearl Harbor Day. A day that was a tragedy seventy years ago. It was the day that launched the United States of America into World War II. I pause to say thanks to all of the veterans who sacrificed in the name of freedom.
My father-in-law fought in that war. He spent many very cold nights on a frozen battlefield. He was cold, hungry and lonely. Some of his friends died alongside of him, yet every man fought on with quiet resolve.
Today, soldiers are stationed all over our world. They are standing up for what they believe in and doing so with their very lives. I salute them too. I wish I could send every last man a treat from home, just to say thank you.
We ate the pepperoni. It was very good. I am not sure if it was the fresh meat or the love held inside, that made it taste so good. The one thing for sure is;  it didn’t last long. 😮
