Almost time but not yet

The weather is warming up. The snow is melting and some are wondering if it’s time to tap yet. No, not yet, it’s just a little warm up. I can’t call it “The January Thaw”, it simply hasn’t been cold enough for long enough…at least not for me 😮
I must admit that I am getting itchy. My favorite part of the season is almost here. I really like our time in the sugarhouse and woods. I am hoping for a nice season again this year.
Maybe some of this snow will melt so that the ground can freeze. It makes for better sledding then. The horses don’t seem to mind, but I like to have the ground frozen underneath the snow.
I guess it’s better for the water table when the ground hasn’t frozen. It can continue to filter down through the earth. I guess this is why weather is not my job… I’ll leave it to the “Big Guy” he seems to know exactly what we need and when.
I will enjoy the warm up. Winter is going fast and so far for us, it has not been too bad. Just a few more weeks and spring will be here…I don’t want to rush a thing.
