Today, I am stiff and sore. I guess you get that way trying to keep up with 18-20 year old young men! Especially at my advancing age 😮 The photo says it all. The little boys would rather watch than help and even King looks tired.
I have a few things on a short list for today, but mostly I plan to rest and pause just a little. It is good to reflect on what has been accomplished around here in the last couple of weeks. Pasture and speltz have been planted. One field of corn has been picked and yesterday much of the sugarwood got cut and split.
I am dealing with a long nasty weed in the corn called “barnyard grass” I don’t know what it is or where it came from, but I am very sick of it. It wraps around every piece of equipment that I have tried so far. It looks like the horses and I will be picking corn by hand. The hogs and cows can pick the small and nubbin ears. I don’t know what to do about that darn grass, but I will think on that too today.
I will divide my time between the corn and the wood for the next few weeks. Then I hope to do a little fall plowing with the horses until the weather turns bad. Right now the weather is perfect. It has even dried a little bit making everything go a little bit better. Some rain is in the forecast, but it is to be followed by a few more nice days … I’m ready! 😮
