Babies & Flies July

Summer is half over. The foals are growing well. The pastures are holding up good. The flies are persistent, but manageable. Here some of our broodmares graze with their babies, enjoying the cool of evening.

Sandee, our oldest foal from this year at 8 weeks old. She is growing well and fast! Her foal coat is starting to shed. She is a good big sister to the other babies. She is going to make a fine workhorse some day.

This is “Chester” he is a hoot. He is also doing well and we are very grateful. He got off to a rough start after being born in gooey mud! He is a calm, likeable youngster and a month old today Good boy Chet!

This orange horse was recently serviced and ready to get to work. The Suffolks do most of the work, but he is a good back-up and ready to go when needed.

I am clicking things off the work list, training colts and educating young foals. Haying is almost complete for the year. Only a couple more loads of purchased small squares are needed to fill the barn. The round bale shed is full, so we are pleased.

These last few days have been hot and muggy. Today and yesterday we were fogged in from the smoke blowing down from the Canadian wildfires. I’m sad for those folks. I’m thinking the cats have the right idea…just chill out inside!
