Mid-Summer Wrap-Up

The season continues to fly by. We just completed our county fair week. School starts later this week. The Goldenrod is in bloom. The pastures are growing again thanks to the recent rains. I’m shaking my head wondering where the time went and hoping it will slow down just a little!

The sunflower in the photo was planted by song birds from the bird feeder. It is pretty for sure. We saw it as a tiny plant in what seems like a few days ago, yet here we are! This is how the summer went too. It was Memorial Day just a few days ago, right? My mom used to say that the older you get , the faster time goes…boy, was she ever right!

We managed to get a cover made for the powercart. It stays inside most of the time, but occasionally it has to sit out. This will protect the engine and controls from the elements. I will even be able to leave it sit in an east facing building over winter. The cover will prevent snow from covering it up. This will allow me to have it hooked to the manure spreader, backed into the shed and ready to use. The snow will be kept out of the engine and off the seat. It will be a pleasure to use it all winter long.

Young horse training continues to move forward too. Jaime just graduated to his “big boy” harness. It was just a fitting session, but it went well. He is doing very well. He is just 16 months old. I am training his mind not his body. The work days will begin in a few months, but for now he gets to feel like a big boy and get used to the fit and feel.

I hope all of you readers are well and working on your late summer list of jobs. Take some time to sit on the porch, sip a cool beverage and contemplate the summer that was!
