OK, get your mind out of the gutter… the gutters are full anyway! We got another half-inch of rain so far today. The temps are cool in the 50’s F. Our fields continue to show the signs of the relentless rain. Thankfully it is not flooding out homes or causing destruction, but my plans are soaked and my dreams are wet.
Farm work consists of chores only. The off farm job has been taking up the rest of the day. The fields can’t be worked, but a few inside projects could be tackled. I will work on those in the coming days. I must get the horse stall manger rebuilt and the old stalls dismantled. It’s just two days work, so I need to get at it!
The horses seem to enjoy the time off. I have only used the wagon and sled. They spend much of their time grazing and getting washed off. I will say though, that they seem to find mud right away after a good rinsing! I guess they want me to keep in practice with the brushes.
The sheep flock is grazing the back pond and sugarhouse pasture. The grass and clover there will sustain them for most of the month. I just move them when I need to bring a load of wood to the woodshed. Sometimes they watch from a resting spot, but usually they are too curious and want to be underfoot..moving them is a good idea.
I am planning and watching out the window every evening as the sun sets. It seems that winter gets closer each day and my work list gets longer. The rains will soon be snow and I have a few things that need done yet. It is so good to have a list to do, health to do it and just enough drive to be impatient. A guy once told me to forget farming. It was,” nothing more than a wet dream” , he said. I can only say that just now I would agree…. but the only way that I will quit farming..is when the Lord takes me home and even there I hope to tend the gardens… after all there will be no weeds! … Talk about a wet dream 😮
