Oh Deer

Sorry no picture today. Forced inside because of my knee surgery. The sun did shine and the temperature was very comfortable. I sat inside icing my knee.

My oldest son had the good fortune of killing his first deer of the season. This harvest comes at a good time. Their freezer was empty and no farm animals are near to be ready. Growing children need protein and once again this farm has provided.

She was a small doe. His arrow flew true and killed her quickly. My son uses a hand-made recurve bow. The bow was made by an old friend of mine who is a true craftsman. My son shoots without sights in a manner known as instinctive. He is a true follower of Daniel Boone and like old Dan, Josh is a very good shot.

Tomorrow the deer will be cut, wrapped and put into the freezer. I am sure a celebration meal will be had, as they give thanks for the meat. That meat will go well with the garden produce that the kids have worked all summer to acquire. Hard work does have its rewards.

I continue to mend. The farm is drying out. Hopefully, me and the work are on a collision course, on target to beat old man winter! ….Oh Deer, did I say winter 😮
