Tapped Out

She’s a beauty!

We are all tapped, now the real work starts! What a day. The boys and I started early. It was nice having both of them here to help. I could not have done it without them. I was surprised, it took us almost seven hours.

I remember it taking us much less time, but we only tapped a fifth of what we did today. We are just under five hundred. We have one more short leg of the woods that could be tapped. I may go ahead and get those few tomorrow.

I am all in for today… even my dog is fast asleep 😮  He followed us from tree to tree and there were quite a few. He played in the snow and went exploring. He had a great time. I guess we all did, well,  I am sure that I did!

The sap is flowing today. It is no giant flow, but the drips are filling the bags no less. It is our first time using bags. They were much less expensive than buckets and lids. I found a place to recycle them when we are done, so I don’t feel too bad about using them.

The sap stays nice and clean and you can see how well the trees are doing with just a glance. The weather looks good for the next few days, so I would say our 2012 season is under way!
