Full Moon Rising Over the Sugarhouse

                                                      March 11, 2012

The other night I was finishing up my evening chores. The moon began to rise. It was full and beautiful. I snapped this picture, but it just doesn’t do it justice. The actual scene was much more vivid than the picture.

It is amazing just how much light the moon provides, especially when it is full. I enjoy just sitting, relaxing and watching all that it touches. I will say that an arm in arm walk on a moonlit night, is a special treat too.

I should have taken pictures today as we gathered the last of this years sap. We pulled the spiles and took down the bags. The bags will be recycled, the spiles cleaned and dried for next year.

I also boiled all that we collected. All that remains is what is in the evaporator. I will make ready to chase that with water. That is my project for tomorrow.

It is with mixed emotion that I end our 2012 season. I am very satisfied with our first years production. I am more than satisfied with the awesome quality of the syrup that we made. I am also proud of the answers we found for problems that we had…. but I am a bit sad that the season is over until next year.

We have big plans for next year too. Some of those plans we will be put in place once the sugarhouse, pans and tanks are all cleaned and stored away. It is nice to see the rest of the family on board with the plans.

This dream of mine coming true, enlightens my life. It is much like the moon overhead. It looks pretty good in pictures, but is awesome in real life 😮
