A Drive in the Country

Jake and Duke

                                                                   May 2, 2012

Yesterday, Jake took Duke for a drive around the farm. Jacob had just completed a few intense emergency room shifts. I am sure the stress melted, as Duke pulled him around the farm. A good horse will do that to a man.

Many folks go for a drive in the country now and then. Some go to see the countryside, others to see the animals, but all go, to just relax. I can agree that a good peaceful country drive is a wonderful thing.

This time of year, the pastures are starting to green up. The leaves are just now popping on the trees. Soon the season of summer will be here and these frosty mornings of late spring, will be only memories. Then mundane tasks like lawn mowing will be top priorities…. but for today, spring is still springing 😮

The whole farm is emerald-green after yesterdays rains. The fields are wet from the one and a half inches that we accumulated. The grasses are grateful for the refreshment and even the birdsong seems louder this morning.

Rain is forecast for later, so I think horsework will come first this morning. Firewood is the order of the day until the rain stops us … But I will find a little time for a drive around the farm. I can say that I’m checking fence, the growth of the hay fields or the water standing in the plowed fields … but I know that I am just taking a drive in the country and letting the stress of life melt away.
