Spring Blossoms

Old, wild apple trees, like this one, line the fencerows and lane ways on our farm. This time of year they are stunning in full blossom. The apples they produce are left for the wildlife mostly, but our livestock shares in a few too.

The smell from the blossoms are almost intoxicating. The hint of a perfume aroma lasts only a little while, but I sure do love it. Only the dreaded multi-flora rose has a better smell to this country boy.

Our bees work the dandylions and apple blossoms like army troopers. I think they too enjoy the sweet smelling nectar. I know I surely enjoy the sweet reward from the fruits of their labor!

This sweet little filly arrived 4 days ago. She and momma gave us quite a scare. They were touch and go for a couple days, showing us how fragile life can be.

We kept them under constant surveillance day and night. We nurtured, medicated and prayed for them.

The mom and baby next door (Amee and Rubee), watched over them too I think. They, especially the baby Rubee, nuzzled the wire panel to encourage the little baby on.

After three days that saw some pretty low points, she and mom have turned the corner and are doing well. We named this little girl, ” Riceland Meadows Rosie’s Blossom”. Blossom for short. It seemed perfect for the sweet baby that she is, the time of year that she was born and the bright future she has to “bloom” in the Suffolk Punch horse world!
