Midnight gets set for labor day

                                                 September 3, 2012

Today is Labor Day. Many folks have the day off from their labors. The chickens, like me, are working. You can see the hen called midnight, settling in for her job 😮

The weatherman keeps telling us that rain is coming … So far no rain in sight. The late planted sweet corn could use a drink. The rest of the garden is about done. There are just a few peppers and some tomatoes to harvest. The potatoes have been dug. They were limited in number, but the size made up for it…It was a good harvest.

The last job for our freezer is the sweet corn. Apples are in short supply, but we hope to make some applesauce for the pantry. It is a delicious treat in the cold days of winter. The tomato soup also warms us with memories of summer as we dine on the homemade concoction of garden vegetables.

The field corn is denting down and drying. Soon we will get that harvest underway. A couple of building projects still need completed, before the cold rains of late fall are upon us. Sure, there is still lots to do, but we are all settled in and just taking it as it comes 😮
