The old saying about a sled dog is that unless you are the lead dog… the view is pretty much the same 😮 When driving the horses, I get to look between them and up the trail a bit…otherwise it’s like looking at a couple of politicians!
Seriously, I like this view. I can see my farm, my horses and where we are going. I am in control and everything is alright in my world. If I come to a cliff, fiscal or any other kind, I can turn … long before the last minute!
I am thinking that the “being in control”, is what I like best. The older I get, the more resistant to change I become. I am fine with the status quo. I don’t want to learn the latest computer quirks, the trendiest fashion or who is sleeping with whom in Hollywood.
I appreciate sunrises more. The sweet music of birdsong is truely wonderful. Fresh coffee steaming in my favorite cup, on a cool morning, gives me great joy. The sound of my grandchildren strikes a chord in my heart…usually right before I wonder how something so small can make so much noise!
Today, my view is of melted snow, rising water and squishy mud. Next week we will be back in the woods. The weatherman says cold weather coming, so hopefully the ground will freeze up some. Pulling out firewood is much easier then…so is walking!
I hope to make a few equipment repairs today. It’s too wet to do much outside, so our inside jobs top the list again. I can use hand tools, listen to the horses chew their food and get lost in the din of quiet. In between the raindrops, I’m sure I will look out across the farm while leaning on the fence and see my future. Soon, I will put my hand where my heart has been for my whole life. I can’t wait to see what I can accomplish then 😮
