Today we started a logging job. We are removing some over crowded oak trees from a small woodlot. The woodlot will be much better off after the crowded trees get some room to grow.
The horses still have on their winter coats. They are shedding good, just not fast enough for a job like this. The going is a bit slow as we give them plenty of breaks, along with, short working days. The improvement in the woods can already be seen, even though we are slow.
The horses have only worked in our own woodlot. Today was their first day in the logcart. They handled it like a pair of professionals. I am proud of both the team and the teamster. My son is not new to logging. It feels good to him too, to be driving strong horses hauling the heavy logs.
Jake has a helper today in our hired man Justin. Those two are making great progress. Justin is learning the woods and safety, as well as, just how awesome true horsepower can be 😮
